Message From The Co-Leaders: The holiday season has passed and hopefully all the chaos that goes with it. Many of us have spent the last few months frantically trying to accomplish far more than is humanly possible. Can you believe that you were able to decorate your home, get holiday cookies made for school, preschool, or friends, find just the perfect gift for everyone on your list, and still try to keep your household, job, and family all running smoothly? Accomplishing all this truly speaks to the power of women. As I look back over the last few months I realize that everything I did was for someone else. Why does becoming a mother mean that you now take the back seat in life and put all your pursuits on hold? As mothers, how often are we worrying about everyone but ourselves? I think the answer is far too often. So, let this year be one in which you begin to take time for yourself and begin to recognize your own importance. When you care for yourself you can be so much better for everyone else that depends on you. Taking time for yourself is difficult and maybe it will begin with very small things – a hot bubble bath, doing your toe nails, an early morning walk , - and then lead to larger things – a girl’s weekend away, taking a class you’ve always wanted to, engrossing yourself in a hobby. Some mothers may need to be pampered, others may want the opportunity to delve into the intellectual/career pursuit they left after having children, and others may have a dream they’d love investigate. So, where does Mothers and More come in to this subject. As a group of women who have taken the time to change our lives to raise children, we share common problems and solutions. Let’s be there as support to someone having a hard time making themselves a priority. Encourage that hesitant woman to get out and chase a dream. We are all better people and mothers when we care for ourselves and offer support to each other. Oh, and be watching for a meeting this spring titled “Making Time for Mom”, make sure you put it on your calendar. Help Wanted: Want to get involved in the chapter, but can’t commit much time? Here is the perfect opportunity…take over the “Getting To Know You” column in the newsletter. This job requires sending out questions to members in an effort to learn more about them. Once you receive the answers you can either compose them into a short essay or leave them in question/answer format and forward them on to the newsletter editor for publishing. This is actually a fun task since you get to make up the questions and learn some neat things about fellow members. If you are interested, please contact Nicole F. …
from the Party Committee: The Party Committee would like to thank all of you who helped out with the Christmas party, baking the extra sugar cookies, and with the cleanup after the party. Thank you! …
from Community Service: We had a
great turnout for our Holiday Kindermusik class at Golden Mesa on
Wednesday, December 17th. We went to Golden Mesa to bring some holiday
cheer and to thank them for their generous use of their meeting room for our
monthly meetings. Leslie Kowalski, Director of Musical Beginnings here in
Las Cruces (Kindermusik), volunteered to lead a Kindermusik-style class with our
members and our children. We played bells and banged on claves and sang
songs. We involved the residents who attended by passing our instruments
for several of the songs. Everyone seemed to get into the holiday spirit.
Moms showed up in holiday colors and children came dressed in Christmas outfits,
making the cutest elves you've ever seen. We had about 13 moms and about
18 - 20 children - quite a mob. Thanks to all who participated. I
want to thank Theresa Allen for arranging the time and date with Golden Mesa.
I would also like to thank Leslie Kowalski for volunteering her time and talent
to our group. (Contact her at 525-2909 if you have questions about Musical
Beginnings) I would also like to thank Annie and Theresa for offering to
work with some craft activities. Because of time constraints, we only had
time for the music activity. We
have a great group of moms and children. We'll do something like this
again soon. Terri …

for a goodbye dinner for Robin, Robert, Nathan, and Emma. Put on your walking shoes and help in the fight against breast cancer. The annual Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure is being held on February 22nd at Biggs Airfield. This year we are hoping to put together a group to walk (members, spouses, kids, and friends) and honor Sue M.'s aunt. Recently Sue has returned to Australia to spend time with her dear aunt Caroline as her five year battle against breast cancer comes to an end. As I speak to other members I realize that there are many more of us who have also been directly affected by breast cancer. This walk is a great family event (you can run if you wish) as they have activities following the walk. Registration is $20 if we send it in by February 15th. This includes a long-sleeved shirt and the activities after the race. If you are unable to walk, but would like to help support the cause, we would love donations to present (anything from $1 up is great). If you are interested in walking or donating, please contact Nicole F. February 26th - Blood Drive. Watch your email for details. RECIPE
OF THE MONTH: From
Annie: Here is a
great warm winter soup that will not take you all day to make. It may be known
to some as an easy version of Italian Wedding Soup. Enjoy as we do!!! Mini

I FOUND: A new BBQ
stand has just opened at the corners of Del Rey and Northrise (in the parking
lot of Tee Time). A man from Deming opened a stand called Cow
Camp Vaquero and it is real Pit BBQ. He has a smoker right behind the
cart! He sells BBQ brisket or sausage sandwiches with fixings for $5, brisket
burritos and BBQ ribs, brisket and sausages for $8 a pound. He has limited hours
(most days 10am-3pm) while he is trying to build his business. But as good as it
is I don't think it will be hard. Give it a shot; you won't be disappointed!!! Connect
For Kids (a non-profit group) questioned the Presidential candidates on issues
concern kids and families. Leo’s Bakery and El Indio Tortillaria – If you find yourself on Madrid just east of Solano make sure you stop at Leo’s Bakery and El Indio Tortillaria. Both businesses are small local establishments that make you especially love Las Cruces. Leo’s has donuts that will give Krispy Kreme a run for their money as well as other yummy pastries and cookies. Next door at El Indio you can buy freshly made tortillas (corn and flour) and corn chips. Besides the great products, you will always be greeted at both places by a friendly face and leave feeling better than when you walked in the door. Business Products Center. If you are tired of standing in long lines at the post office, then I have a great solution for you…Business Products Center on El Paseo across from the Video 4 movie theater. Stop by to do your U.S. Mail business (at no extra charge) as well as shipping by U.P.S. You will never experience a line, always be greeted with a smile, and they usually have a treat for the kids. In addition to mailing services you can find great gifts for people, business products, and country craft items. Everyone that I have recommended this store to has called me up thanking me for the suggestion. So, give it a try. OTHER
STUFF: An Expensive Lesson Learned the Hard Way….did you know that in order to keep your tires in the safest condition, and to last their lifetime, that you are supposed to rotate them every 5,000 – 7,500 miles? I didn’t know this, but discovered it after an expensive new set of tires. I neglected to rotate them and discovered that in half of their life I had completely worn out my front set and that they were unsafe for driving. Also, don’t forget to check your tire pressure to make sure all four are inflated properly. I wish that I could recommend a tire store, but after having an unpleasant and potentially dangerous experience at Big O Tires, I’m looking for a place to go myself. BabyNames.com 2003
